Exhibitor Profile
Market overview
Thailand, dubbed “the Detroit of Asia”, is the largest vehicle producer in Southeast Asia, manufacturing over 1.8 million vehicles in 2023. It’s also the region’s second largest car market and is home to 49 automotive manufacturing plants and 7 R&D centers.
Thailand aims to become an EV production hub by 2030. As of September 2024, four-wheel battery electric vehicle sales account for 13% of the market share, driven by the wider availability of models and supportive government initiatives, which offers subsidies and tax incentives to encourage consumers and manufacturers to transition to BEVs. Continued growth is also predicted for electric two-wheelers, trucks and cars.
SMMT recently published a Thailand market report designed to help UK companies better understand Thailand’s automotive sector and the opportunities for British businesses on offer.
UK trade pact with Thailand
The UK and Thailand entered into an Enhanced Trade Partnership in September 2024, designed to boost trade and investment. This partnership will help create opportunities for UK businesses in Thailand, the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia.

- Aftermarket parts represent almost 50% of Thailand’s overall auto parts market. Currently valued at £27bn, this is expected to grow to over £35bn by 2030, driven by strong demand for replacement equipment from Thailand’s growing national fleet and ageing vehicle population, where approximately 50% of vehicle are over 10 years old. Additionally, as EVs start reaching the end of their manufacturer’s warranty, there is growing demand for EV aftermarket parts and servicing. This presents great opportunities for UK companies to collaborate with Thai distributors and workshops, bringing advanced aftermarket solutions to the growing market.
